EARLY AND ABSENTEE VOTING
  • Early voting factoids, from AP and LA Times reports. As of Oct. 30, 2004:
    • More than 380,000 voters in Nevada had cast early or absentee votes in Clarke, Washoe, Carson City and Douglas Counties: in 2000 the then-record for early and absentee voting in Nevada was 285,386.
    • More than 1.5 million Florida voters have cast early or absentee ballots, perhaps as much as 20% of the expected Florida turnout in this election.
    • Iowa reports that as of earlier this week (Monday) 287,000 had already voted --- in contrast to 277,000 in the 2000 election.
    • Tennessee reports that at least 1.1 million early votes have been cast, about 30% of registered voters in that state
    • Reports of heavy absentee ballot flows across the nation poured in, and of sometimes long lines for early voting. This is true in many non-battleground states; for example, long lines for early voting were reported in Los Angeles County, with reported waits ranging from 20 minutes in some locations to 60 minutes in others.
